Compositions

This piece is part of a larger work titled “Prism Suite” written for a mixed ensemble of seven intsruments (Strings, Winds, and Piano). It takes the idea of Issac Newton's seven color spectrum and assigns each to one of the seven musical modes. Violet uses the dorian mode to reflect the color's cool, warm, and mysterious qualities. 

Another movment from “Prism Suite”, Blue utilizes the lydian mode to create a bright and uplifting sound. This piece reflects the adventerous elements of the color blue that exist in places like the sky and ocean. 

Also from “Prism Suite”, Indigo is much a much darker color that didn't exist in the five colors that Newton originally coined. In this movment, Indigo is portrayed by the locrian mode. This creates a sense of tonal ambiguity that fits this color's dark and unusual nature.
